Preferences, being invisible, act like filters, allowing some information in, and disallowing other information, even to the point of denying its existence. A key takeaway here is that the world you experience is characteristic of your mental processing; it is not real in the truest sense. Change your mental processing and the perceived world changes along with your behavior.

 

We are aware of only a very small part of our mental processes.

With training and some effort, we can begin to become more aware of some of the hidden processes.

What we are not aware of, we cannot change.
